Matthias Mayer (DE)

Matthias Mayer has been working as an artist and curator since the early 1990s. His artistic work includes painting, sculpture, installation, video, performance and photography. Currently his installation pieces move in the cross section between music and visual art. In 2012, together with Jens Christian Madsen he founded the music project "Sporty Jesus". In 2014 their first release "Ghost Driver" came out. To consider Mayer's oeuvre means to look at the different approaches of his works in relationship to the context of politics, society and (pop-)culture.

Since 2003, he has been running the project space Spor Klübü in Berlin-Wedding. He has realized numerous exhibitions with international artists. In 2014, Matthias Mayer was awarded the annual prize given by the Berlin Senate Chancellery for Cultural Affairs for his work with his project space. He is involved in the Network of Berlin Independent Project Spaces and Initiatives and co-coordinates the project series "One Night Stand" in cooperation with the KW Institute for Contemporary Art.

Matthias was a contributer to the 2012 Curatorial Marathon and will contribute again 2015.
