Etienne Turpin (CA)

Etienne Turpin is a philosopher, Founding Director of anexact office, (design research practice) based in Jakarta and Berlin, and Research Coordinator of User Group Inc. LLP, a London-based, worker-owned cooperative building software for disaster response and environmental monitoring. With Anna-Sophie Springer, he is a Co-Principal Investigator of Reassembling the Natural, an exhibition-led inquiry into the natural histories of the Anthropocene, and Co-Editor of the intercalations: paginated exhibition series. Previously, he worked as a Research Scientist at the MIT, Boston, USA and a Research Fellow at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of Michigan, and the Australian Center for Cultural Environmental Research, University of Wollongong (UOW); he was also awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Smart Infrastructure Facility, UOW, for his work on strategic climate change adaptation in Southeast Asia. He has taught advanced design research at the University of Toronto, University of Michigan, University of California, Berkeley, and Strelka Institute, Moscow. Dr. Turpin is also the co-editor of Fantasies of the Library (2016) and Art in the Anthropocene (2015), amongst other publications.
