Annette Schemmel is a freelance curator and writer with a back- ground in studio art. During her studies In Munich she worked for Barbara Gross Galerie as an assistant and for lothringer13/laden as a curator, in addition she ran her own art initiative entitled “Salon”, a regular program presenting young professionals from different fields of cultural inquiry in an individually designed setting. After graduating from Munich Art Academy in 2005 with an art teachers’ degree, she was a participant in De Appel’s Curatorial Training Program in Amsterdam. At the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais in Dunkerque, FR, she developed a curatorial research project on collecting as a recipient of the H+F Curatorial Grant in 2007/08. Since 2009 she has been based in Berlin, and associated with the artist platform Enough Room for Space. Annette regularly travels to Africa for contemporary art projects. She is currently a PhD candidate in art history at Freie Universität Berlin and has recently published in On Curating/HfG Zurich, African Arts/UCLA and Savvy Online Journal/Savvy Berlin.
