Hester Oerlemans came to Berlin in 1999 with a stipendium for Künstlerhaus Bethanien. She studied at the Graphic School Eindhoven (NL) and at the Art Academie in Arnhem (NL).
The mixing of different worlds, playful interventions and commentar- ies on everyday reality are the main themes of Hester’s work. Leaving no medium unexploited, she consistently shows a perception of the world around her which is both poetic and critical. In drawings, installa- tions, projects and permanent artworks in public space, she makes an effort to unravel the object until its essence shows. No matter whether she busies herself with the art world, urban space or personal surround- ings, she hits the nail on its head. Since 2010 she has been running the project space OZEAN in Berlin.
Hester has recently exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Arnhem (NL); Hamish Morrison Gallery, Berlin; Art Center Diepenheim (NL); Sommer & Kohl, Berlin; Autocenter, Berlin; Nationalmuseum, Berlin. Some of her permanent public artworks are located at: Floating Carpet, PGGM, Zeist (NL), Round Schijndel, Schijndel (NL) and Flip Clock, ROC, Hengelo (NL).
Hester has been living and working in Berlin since 1999.
