Rhys Himsworth (UK)

Rhys Himsworth received his BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2003 and his MA in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art in 2009. Since the completion of his masters he has exhibited extensively in Europe, North America the Middle East and Asia including solo shows at Reynolds Gallery, Richmond Virginia, Katara Art Center in Doha, Qatar, CICA Museum in Seoul, South Korea and the National Museum of Wales, UK. He has taken part in residencies in the United States such as The International Studio and Curatorial Program, New York, and VCCAKunstlerhaus Bethanien, Picture Berlin and Takt Academy in Germany, and Pada, Lisbon Portugal.

Himsworth has presented at The Royal Computer Society in their annual symposium- Electronic Visualization and the Arts, The International Symposium for New Media Art, Seoul, South Korea, and Art Teleported, New York. He has served as a panel member for Fast Media/Slow Knowledge at SGC Philigrafika, in Philadelphia, and at the Arab Museum of Modern Art as part of their symposium on Art: Past, Present and Future in the city of Doha. He is a regular panel member to art, design and education conferences including The Spectres of Evaluation in Melbourne, Australia, Design Principles and Practices, Vancouver, Canada, and the Arts and Society in Rome Italy. He has also served on panels at the College Art Association in Washington D.C. From 2016-2018 he served on the board of the Southern Graphics Council, the largest printmaking organization in the US, where he served as the International Member at Large.

Himsworth has also been a visiting artist at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, The University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and The Art Institute of Chicago and Virginia Commonwealth University in the US. He was Associate Professor and the Director of Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University's branch campus in Doha, Qatar, from 2011-2018. There he founded Fanoon: Center For Printmedia Research, a printmaking publishing program dedicated to artistic exploration through the medium of print. He has also overseen and coordinated the university's artist in residence program.

In 2009 Himsworth was awarded the Conran Foundation Award. He also received the R.K Burt Award for PrintmakingThe Land Securities Prize for Art, an Arts Council of Wales Grant and is the successful recipient of several university faculty research grants including the Presidential Quest Award, as well as a Undergraduate Research Experience Grant to collaborate with undergraduate students from art, design and medical backgrounds for interdisciplinary research. In 2012 he also received a National Priorities Research Program Grantawarded by the Qatar National Research Fund. In 2020 he received a grant from Wales Arts International to pursue his practice in Berlin. He currently lives and works in both Wales, UK and Berlin, Germany where he is a fellow at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien.
