Molly Garcia-Underwood (SP/AUS)

Molly García-Underwood is an emerging artist from Adelaide, South Australia.

She likes to play with objects, bodies and light to create works that explore concepts of power, impermanence, tangibility and manipulation. Through actions and arrangements, García-Underwood warps, disrupts and interferes, challenging the logical perception and understanding of her subjects, as well as her medium. Her practice is not restricted by any one particular medium, with García-Underwood's work utilising aspects of photography, video, sculpture, performance and installation. A free and experimental practice will always lead her to something greater or stranger than she imagined.

García-Underwood has been actively exhibiting in Australia since 2014. She has been involved in the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival, both as an artist and curator. At the 2015 SALA Festival García-Underwood was a finalist for the Centre for Creative Photography's ‘Latent Image Award’, and was also selected to be a part of the Independent Photography Festival Photo Prize in Melbourne, as well as in 2016. In early 2016 García-Underwood completed an international artist residency resulting in an exhibition of new work at Studio Kura in Fukuoka, Japan. Later in the year García-Underwood travelled to Berlin, Germany to participate in an immersive portfolio review program at Picture Berlin art academy. She was selected as one of ten international artists per year to participate in the program.

García-Underwood currently lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
