Deborah Uhde develops essay films and mindscapes to explore how a
dynamic consciousness emerges. To do this, she composes complex networks
of often unstable and unpredictable relationships into which the viewer
is drawn. The starting point is usually a research process or an
irritating encounter. Here, she is interested in (auto-)biographical
references, (historical/archival) documents or direct encounters that
reveal systematic inadequacies - for example: the nuclear waste
repository around the corner, the relationship with a colonially
entangled ancestor or the search for art in the precision measuring
agency. Her intention is to sharpen the sense of fragile relationships
and interactions.
