Mae Eskenazi is a non-binary queer disabled artist fusing photography, sculptural installation, performance, and plant medicine. Calling upon lineages of disabled/trans carework and Jewish mysticism, their practice questions the distinction between the spectacle and the banal. Mae’s practice transforms images of seemingly banal moments into multimedia and communal sites of inquiry. Through empathy and tenderness, their work aims to serve queer, trans, and chronically ill communities for whom the work is created, and performed alongside.
Mae earned a BA in Feminist and Gender Studies from Colorado College. They have been a resident at Digimyths (2021), Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program (2020-2021), and Activation Residency (2019). Mae has worked alongside Masq.online,Activation Residency, New York Transformative Justice Hub, GLITS, and Free Them All For Public Health.
