Surya Gied spent her early childhood in South Korea and her adolescence and adult life in Germany.. In 2008 she completed her MFA from the University of the Arts (UUniversität der Künste)) in Berlin,, and participated in the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprogramm,, a postgraduate program for women artists, in 2011. Since 2016 Surya has been teaching at the Universität Kassel in the department of Architecture (BBAU KUNST ERFINDEN)).. Her recent works have been shown at the Hillyer Art Space, Washington DC, Pyeong Chang Biennale, South Korea and Savvy Contemporary, Berlin. Surya was shortlisted for the Schering Stiftung Art Award in 2016 and her work has been awarded with grants from the German Academic Exchange Service, the Goethe Institute Seoul and the Bosch Foundation Alumni Association.
