Kara J. Schmidt (US)

Kara J. Schmidt (b. 1983) is based in New York City working in video, data collage, installation, sculpture, and drawing. She received her BFA in Film and Video from Pratt Institute in 2010, and as of May 2014 will have an MFA in Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice from City College of New York. Kara has shown works at Project 722 Gallery, Brooklyn; Compton-Goethals Gallery at the City College of New York; GLI.TC/H 2112, Chicago; BAM Rose Cinemas, Brooklyn; and F-Stop Magazine. In April 2013, Kara co-curated an exhibition with her MFA colleagues titled Economy of the Ephemeral and was also a participant in a public discussion panel of the same name centered around critical issues concerning ephemeral art. Her work explores geometric abstraction as a way to map public space (both physical and digital) and as an investigation of how the urban landscape dictates the movement of the body.
