Gabriela Garcia (VE)

Gabriela García-Luna is a contemporary photography-based artists, born in Mexico City and living in Canada.

Since 1999 García-Luna has participated in solo and group exhibitions of photographic, photo-based and installation art work. Selected projects include Pensive Space, Moose Jaw Museum and Art Galley, Moose Jaw, SK (2014); Gathered Light, Slate Fine Art Gallery, Regina, SK (2013); New Territories/Nuevos Territorios at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery, Calgary, AB (2012); MIND THE GAP!,Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina, SK, and The Art Gallery of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON (2010-11, toured); Speak/Memory, Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery, Moose Jaw, SK, (2009); Vulnerables, Galería Arte Alterno, Oaxaca, Mexico (2004); Summa, Museo del Carmen México (2003-04, toured).

García-Luna has been the recipient of numerous residency grants and awards including the 2001 OMNILIFE Grand Prize in Photography (Mexico), the 2002 First Prize in Photography in Queretaro Libertad Third Art Contest, Mexico; a 2003 Photographic project Grant for the Banff Centre , AB, through FONCA (National Foundation for Culture and Art Fellowship – Mexico); the 2007 Artists in Residency grant to realize an installation art work at La Chambre Blanche, Quebec City, through FONCA/CALQ (Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Quebec); a 2010 Independent Artist Grant through The Saskatchewan Arts Board, and a 2011 grant through FONCA-Mexico and The Banff Centre-Canada to realize a photographic project at the Banff Centre.

Her work is part of the OMNILIFE Collection, Mexico, the Saskatchewan Arts Board Permanent Collection, Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery Permanent Collection, SK, Canada and private collections.
